As I walk along the sunbaked streets of Barcelona, multiple fumes intertwine in the hot air: fresh bread, coffe, waffles, hor tarmac, burnt rubber, cigarette smoke and… Chloe edp. Amongst the Light Blues, Aliens and yes – even La Vie Est Belles (damn you guys for wearing THAT in summer heat!!! Totally not the way to go!!!) my nose immediately picks up on the pristine little thing. Like a whiff of fresh air – quite literally.
Let’s jump straight in:
Top notes: peony, freesia, lichi
Middle notes: rose, lily of the valley, magnolia
Base notes: amber, cedar
After the initial screaming blast of ALL the florals listed + something pronouncedly acrid (I’m guessing the lichi), Chloe edp slowly calms into a soapy, powdery, only slightly sour cloud of scent that evokes both freshness and elegance. Chloe on me is a predominantly rose-y perfume, with only a hint of magnolia and some very dry rose. The warmer the weather, the more soapy it feels, and high temperatures lend the perfume a warm, almost sweet, amber-y halo. I used to hate Chloe because it reminded me of soaked bread and old wardrobes. Funny how our perception of perfume changes over time. The longer I wear her, the fluffier, sweeter, and more sensual she gets as the base notes appear. My nose does not pick up on much cedar, nor much lily-of-the-valley.
Chloe has become my ultimate French chic perfume. I reach for her when I want to:
a) feel fresh out of shower all day and
b) when I want to emulate those understated sexy vibes.
Chloe is not an in-your-face sexy perfume; its beauty lies in its crispiness. Think of an ironed white button-down shirt worn without a bra. Think of freshly washed hair tucked up in a loose bun over a tiny pair of pearl earrings. Think of nude pink manicure and ballet slippers. That kinda sexy. Just look at the bottle and you know what I mean.
Chloe edp is currently number one bestseller in Spain (ok maybe in the summer it got knocked by Light Blue but ONLY in the summer!). Everyone and their daughter, and their grandma is crazy about it. Why? Well, Chloe has been able to pull off a truly impressive balancing act: she is bot retro and modern. Grandmas love it because it’s powdery and evokes the good old days; mothers, or any young 25+ women like it because it’s a modern multitasker that works for absolutely any occasion, including their boyfriends’ perfume allergies; and teenagers will go crazy about the cute bottle while being able to smell clean – sometimes it’s hard when your hormones take over… 🙂
Chloe edp is hard to hate – apart from the fact that it’s literally everywhere I really cannot find any real fault. Longevity: tick (around 6-8 hours on me). Work-appropriate: tick. Fancy event appropriate: tick. Romantic date? Tick. Also, it’s quite affordable, at least here in Spain 30 ml costs around 40 euros, 50 ml 55 euros and 75 ml around 60 euros, in any main perfume store like Sephora, Douglas, Druni… Now that I mentioned it, perfume in Spain is so cheap I haven’t checked Ebay for ages! I digress… And lastly – the bottle. Ah, that bottle. I’d just buy it for that. Double tick.
